In Japan, Sake brewery are easely recogniazable thanks to a specific distinction sign : a big japanese cedar ball is hung above the entrance. Every year, a new one is made and hung to announce the new sake of the year. Today, in a small valley called Oobu, south Munakata, local people made a new one at Kawakami family’s farm (organic oranges farmer) for the brewery Katsuya (in Akama-juku street) for 02/18th-19th celebrations.
When finished, this ball is about 100kg (220lbs), first green, it gradually becomes brown drying. In the past, when there were no media, it was a way to inform people the new sake was available for sale.
